August 16 HomeI finally arrived home in AZ late Monday night. Living out of a suitcase for 2 1/2 weeks isnt one of my favorite things to do, but I did have a good time. The bad part about being away from home for that long, is the chore list gets pretty long. Plus I have almost 3 weeks of blog reading to do.
I have plenty of stories that I can write about, but at the moment I'll leave you with just one. I took off from Wisconsin for the northwest suburbs of Chicago for 3 days. I spent the first 2 nights in Wauconda, home of my blogging friend DEB. We met at 7 am at her favorite coffee shop before she went to work. I was embarrassed to tell her that I forgot her gift, its sitting in my garage. I'll be mailing it shortly. Deb was kind enough to give me a great T-shirt, "The bars of Wrigleyville". The hour we chatted flew by, and we both had a good time.
An attorney got home late one evening, after a very taxing day, trying to get a stay of execution for a client James Wright, who was due to be hanged for murder at midnight. His last minute plea for clemency to the governor had failed and he was feeling worn out and depressed. As soon as he got through the door at home, his wife started on him about, "What time of night do you call this? Where have you been?" And on and on.
Too shattered to play his usual role in this familiar ritual, he poured himself a shot of whisky and headed off for a long hot soak in the bathtub pursued by the predictable sarcastic remarks. While he was in the bathroom, the phone rang. The wife answered and was told that her husband's client had been granted his stay of execution after all. Finally realizing what a day he must have had, she decided to go upstairs to give him the good news. As she opened the bathroom door, she was greeted by the sight of her husband's rear end as he was bent over naked drying his legs and feet. "They're not hanging Wright tonight," she said. He whirled around and screamed, "FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, WOMAN, DON'T YOU EVER STOP?" I was planning on writing a little more, but I started to watch the Cub game last night. And it when on, and on, and on. The Cubs finally won it in 18 innings. Then I switched to the Diamondback game, and it too was in extra innings. It wouldnt end, finally Arizona pulled it out after 18 innings!!!!!! I'm tired.
