Home again

I'm finally back home AGAIN.   Buffalo was fun as usual.  I'll soon post the few pictures I took , unfortunately my new camera isnt working well, and I have to send it in for warranty service.  The flight home wasnt the best.  Northwest cancelled my connecting flight to Detroit about 1.5 hrs before takeoff because of mechanical problems.  They got me 2 different flights on US Airways, from Buffalo to Philly to Phx.  I got home about 2 hours after my original scheduled time.   As I was waiting for NW to make these new connections, I overheard the conversation between a young couple with a small baby, and the ticket agent.  She couldnt find them a flight until the following day.  The couple asked for hotel and food vouchers and the agent refused!  She said since the mechanical trouble did not occur in Buffalo, they didnt have to give them anything.  HUH?  So what?

IIWK....... All airlines shall provide hotel and food vouchers when they cancel flights due to their own problems.

From my favorite columnist in the Arizona Republic, Clay Thompson:

Why does a wet dog always wait to shake until it is near a person? My dogs get out of the pool and run over to me before they shake. Is it a greeting or a way to share the feeling?

Nobody knows for sure, but I found a few ideas. Here's one: They want to show you how great they are. Say your little girl is just learning how to swim or maybe how to dive, and you're sitting there watching and she does something really good. What does she do? Chances are she will get out of the pool and come over to tell you about it.

It's the same thing with a dog. It's like: "Hey, look at me! I jumped in the pool! Wasn't that great? I got wet! See how wet I am! Am I a great dog or what?"

Here's another one: happiness. It's hot out. The dog is hot. You let it go for a swim and cool off. The dog is delighted. It feels great, and it runs over to show you how happy it is. And shakes all over you.

Another suggestion: It's a funny trick. The dog knows that if it shakes water all over you're going to squirm and make funny noises. This is a good game for the animal.

Last idea: The dog is a jerk.

Hiatal hernia surgery is scheduled for October 18th, and I'll probably be in the hospital about 3 days.  No solid food for the 2 weeks following the proceedure.  :(  I am now taking applications for a temporary nurse, to wait on me hand and foot.  You may apply at my email address.

Chinese word of the day

Hu shi........(who shu)........nurse

Hey KT,
Welcome back to bloggerville! It always surprizes me at how  much big airlines complain about loosing money and slow business, but then they treat customers like crap.

Hi Tom,
Sorry, I have to pass on the nursing duty, I had enough of that this spring when my husband had hip replacement surgery! I love him dearly but...oh, never mind. It's no fun having surgery of any kind but I know a couple of people who had hernias fixed and they felt SO much better after.
So are you a member of the loyal order of the moose or were you just a guest???
As for airlines, our AirCanada has a reputation for their bad service and worse attitude but theres an upstart airline out west here called Westjet that has awesome service and helpful attitudes as well as a sense of humour - it you're on hold while on their phone line, there is no elevator music, there is recorded jokes!!

Welcome back!  Sorry things were no fun on the way home, but at least they got you home.  The new law is great!  Airlines can be so rude.  Are you relieved that they finally have a date for your surgery?

Exactly! My big dog always shakes near me! But I think it also tries to take a revenge: I enforce it to take a bath after swimming in the sea, and then it wants me to share the taste of the shower.

No solid foods for 2 weeks???? Dang KT, I'm not sure I could do that.
Glad you had a good time. That nativity is just like we had when I was little.
You're too funny, waiting on your hand and foot. lmao Wouldn't be too hard, heck they don't even have to cook you meals! lmao

In response to your comment left at mine..That is why I suggested to NOT leave until you see the SUPERVISOR personally. They tried that "trick" with me as well, however, I stayed there while numerous other travelers went through the same ordeal. I stayed "put" and after doing so for awhile..the service agent realized tht I was not going to leave until I spoke or saw the Supervisor personally. He ( the service agent ) finally asked me come back over to him..he smiled and said "you are a persistant one" to which I replied..."I have friend's in "high" places"..LOL..meaning I took the advice of a Pilot friend of mine..I just knew what to do.

Later.

KT, Welcome back to blogland.  I hate NW airlines.  Last time we flew, they were so screwed up that Jim swore he'd never fly again...that was in 1998 and we haven't flown since.

I finally did a google search on hiatal hernia...sounds like yours is a paraesophaeal hernia...the kind that needs surgery.  Good luck in finding that nurse...maybe Capn Q. can come stay with you for a few days.  You didn't specify male or female nurse!  hee hee
Take care, Cindy

Welcome Home Tom,

I have only had one bad experience with airlines and flights "delayed" and then canceled. If it was mechanical problems all the couple would have had to do..is what I did that one time....ASK FOR A SUPERVISOR and DO NOT LEAVE the Guest Service area until one GETS THERE.  :)

I got not only the food vouchers and hotel accomodations, but also cab fare for inconvenience.

See ya.

I agree with the ruling but I think they should also pay for or refund all the booze expenses that you occur during the delay.  As far as a nurse had a foot, No one will want to come close to those feet, PeeeeeeU!

Hiya KT:  Welcome home and I'm glad you had fun.  That sucks with the airlines.  You'd think they'd bending over backwards nowadays to make people happy.  Your surgery day will be here before you know it.  Good luck getting a nurse....I think all who apply will probably run away...lol....just kidding.
Hugs...Diane.

Phew... no fun on the hernia repair surgery, well, any surgery... trust me on this one.  Still, it is nice to know that it is a lot quicker than what it used to be, and the very fact that they can fix you up... well, definitely a plus! :)

Oh, and I think I'll pass on submitting in an application to be a temporary nurse :) haha  Good luck with that, though :)
