    Panic in the streets

I decided it was just too hot to go to garage sales on Saturday.  But I did stop at a few on Friday while I was running my errands, and I picked up 3 items. The best find(I think) was a FREE dresser.  The lady said its been in her family for 100 years.  It needs glue and refinishing.......in other words, another project that I'll probably never complete.

Being the 5th largest city in the US, you have to expect alot of crime.  Not a day goes by when you dont hear about something bad like a rape or murder. Did this stop the people from leading a normal life?  NOOO!   But a week ago, the PHX police linked some of the crimes, and announced that we have 2 serial killers/rapists. What a mistake.  The national media picked up on this, and announced that "we are living in fear."  "Until they are caught, nobody is safe."  In a few days, a full blown panic had set in among some residents............THANKS TO THE MEDIA!!!  The fact is, you're far more likely to be killed in a car crash, than by a serial killer.  According to police, 177 people died in PHX accidents last year.  Statewide, more than 6 times that number were killed on the roads. Be more observant, a little more careful, but take control of your lives.

We were out for our usual Sunday evening beers at the local sports bar.  They had that goofy awards show on most of the TV's, ESPN's "The Espy's".  After catching bits and pieces of it, I've decided to make a new rule:
IIWK....... When on stage, presenting or accepting an award, all sunglasses will be removed.

It seems as though more than 1/2 of the bloggers are cat owners, so I'll continue with another cat story, this one from our AZ Republic writer, Clay Thompson:

    Do cats pant like dogs?

We were at our son's recently and after briskly running and playing, his cat started panting like a dog.We have two cats, and we've never seen either one of them pant.

If you saw your son's cat panting, why are you asking me if cats pant?

Cats sweat through their paws, but if they get hot enough they will also cool off by panting.

And when they're hot, cats tend to wash themselves more often. When the saliva on the fur evaporates it helps lower the cat's temperature.

Cats also pant when they're frightened or upset about something.

If you see your cat panting when it isn't especially hot or the animal hasn't been exerting itself, you probably should take it to the vet. Something else might be wrong.

That plane crashed less than 50 yards from our old house. The pilot was aiming for the field next to our old home. He was trying. Poor soul. He had trouble from the start. 118...I don't wanna hear it!

I totally agree with you.  Whoever goes on stage to accept an awrd or presenting it, should take off thei sunglasses.  It irritates me too when they wear sunglasses at night.....sometime they have to pull it down so that they can see better.  why not take it off?  Argh.....these are the things that irritate me.

I've seen a cat pant.  We had a family cat at home and we had to move, so we put him in the car and I think it freaked him out a little.  Started to pant too....freaked me out.  :)  My uncle was a vet so we called him and he told me to just pet him and try to calm him down.  After a while, he stopped panting.

Good Morning KT:  Speaking of cat's panting.  You said if you see your cat panting for no reason you should take him to the vet.  That's very good advice.  But, the other day I took my cat to the vet for some shots and that made him pant...lol.  He was stressed to the hilt.  They also shed a lot more when they're stressed and silly me;  I wore a black T-shirt and my cat is white......what a mess!!

That dresser will be gorgeous if you get around to refinishing it.  Wow...100 years old and free!!!

    Try to stay cool.

    Hugs....Diane.

I don't know what cat wouldn't be panting with this heat wave.  YUCK!  We keep hoping for rain here just for a little relief.

I'm with you on the sunglasses law...that is so annoying.  I wonder if they can see anything at all with those stupid things on.

I missed the story, mind you I tend to avoid the news, doesn't do much for keeping up on the times, but I find I sleep better at night.

Hope you had an awesome weekend ~hugs~

Hey KT, that was so sad that nobody had any good taste in beer! boy that was lame LOL!! On the flip side my house was still standing when I got home so thats good news. Had a little surprize before I left work tonight though. I was getting ready to clean up and leave and someone said there was a car that looked just like my Chevelle pull up in the lot. They all know that car so it shocked the shit out of me when I went outside and guess who was waiting for me. She said she was to bored and drove up to see where I worked. She made me drive it home since it doesn't have air and it was really hot today so I got stuck roasting my butt off. Damn, I think I'm henpecked already  uggg!!!

We are moving because we want to.  There!  Actually, my husband is doing to do his post-doctoral there for a few years and then we'll be headed back to the states.  Unless we fall in love with Europe and then we'll never return for fear of our parents (aka Grandparents).  Please stop by Amsterdam!!

I do like your blog about the serial killers though.  It's hard not to be paranoid sometimes but you're right, as long as you're in control of your life there is much less of a worry.  Although some things you can never be prepared for, but why worry over the things you have no control over, right?

If everyone lived their lives in fear then no one would live.  Just be smart and aware.  Other than that if it is you time, then it is your time.

This heat wave is brutal but I don't feel so bad right now as I am checking you blog and see your temps are still 102 after 9pm.  It is still 90 here. However out humidity is considerably higher than yours at 84% as opposed to your 21%  Not sure but I think that kind of balances out...LOL.  I am sure you think differently.

    Stay COOL!

OK I am unsure here - do you garage sale for stuff to put on eBay - or just to cruise around scoping stuff?  It is cracking me up to learn of your newest acquired pieces of treasure.

Your cartoon is hysterical!!! Love when you find the goods!

Thanks you VERY much for the sunglasses rule - so tired of those friggin' idiots trying to make themselves seem so cool that they don't care whether or not people see them.  Or is it just they drank / did too much ?  Either way - DORKS!!!

    Keep bloggin'!

Yes, the dresser is beautiful if only you can get to it.  Looks like it could take a LOT of work?  Worth enough for what you can get for it after it's done?

Do you know it's almost as hot here as it is there? It's' 97 right now and it ISN'T DRY HEAT either lol.
I hadn't heard about your serial killers. I love reading Ann Rules books, that's mostly what she writes about. If they catch them let her know and she might  write a best seller :0).
I am not one of the bloggers who has a cat or a dog. Don't like cats and I ran over the last dog we had so they won't let me have another one lol. It was a accident, I didn't do it on purpose ;).

Oh that cat tidbit was great!  My brother's fat, princess-like cat pants after we play with it.  She is so used to laying on her throne and being pet that it practically kills her when she plays with her toys.

I HATE how the media makes a big issue out of EVERYTHING, I especially hate when they make issues out of the weather.  Like today its suppose to hit near 100 degrees.  You can bet that the evening news will be all about Cooling Centers, interviews with people who work outside, etc.  Now, that I read your blog, I go this temp is nothing, just imagine if we lived in Phoenix!

and yes cats pant...I liken it to Hyperventlating? Roy's Cat that came with HIS divorce was our first cat together....it was very neurotic!!! It licked all the hair off it's bellie and three inches up it's tail trying to get the flea. It puked up hairballs EVERYWHERE!!!! And gave Midnight Massages!! Not a fun thing!!

I thought it best to take him in to have him checked out, he had the worst breath ever. I loaded him up and about 1 mile into the 10 mile trip, he started hyperventlatin'....One more reason to put his head in a bag!! His heart rate was off the chart and the Dr then, not the Dr now, didn't want to touch it........WUSSSY!! It was Roy's cat!!! I had sneeked it out of the house. That nasty cat lived until he was 22 and had no teeth when he went to Glory. I think he was senile too.....he would walk into the room and look around "Have I been here before??"

I had problems with takin' pix of my hands.....hence the toes.....so no bells!!
