Hathaway, Thomas Greer

Thomas Greer Hathaway, 55, of Chandler, AZ passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, September 12, 2006. Tom was born in Milwaukee, WI on May 7, 1951, and grew up in Neenah, WI. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire in 1973, he immediately moved to the Chicago area to be closer to his beloved Cubs & Bears. In 1994, he picked up everything and moved to Phoenix.

Tom worked at several companies during his career, including TRW, Signode, Illinois Tool Works, and Motorola. Then in 1996, he surprised all with the decision to retire. He wanted to further enjoy his passions, including: sports, the internet, family & friends, garage sales/e-bay and beer. Number one of these was baseball, especially his Chicago Cubs. When he lived in Chicago, he could often be found at Wrigley Field, and after he moved to Phoenix, he was never far from a TV tuned to WGN. Unfortunately, he never got to see them win it all.

His other passion was the internet. Several years ago, he started a blog on MSN Spaces entitled "If I Were King". Tom quickly gathered a large fan base and was anointed "King Tom" by setting numerous laws based on his royal status.

The internet also led him to the love of his life, Jin Yu Yi (Rose) of China. Tom was a life-long bachelor until this spring when he traveled to China and married Rose. She was unable to return to the states with him, but he was actively working through many visa issues to allow his "Queen" to join him in Phoenix. He was so looking forward to her arrival.

Tom is also survived by his mother, Jane Hathaway of Naples, FL; sister Susan Hass (Dan) of Brussels, Belgium; brother Steve (Elaine) of Madison, WI; and five nieces and nephews: Gretchen and Katie Hass, and Nathan, Craig and Sam Hathaway. He was especially close to Gretchen, who moved to Phoenix a few years ago. They saw each other often.

A memorial event will be held Saturday, September 23, 2006, at Boston's Bar & Grille, 1730 E. Elliott Road, Tempe. All his friends are invited. Please consult Tom’s blog for the time.

Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy are asked to consider either Cubs Care at Wrigley Field, 1060 W. Addison St., Chicago, IL 60613, or the International Myeloma Foundation, 12650 Riverside Drive, Suite 206, North Hollywood, CA 91607-3421, in honor of his father.

Weekend

BEARS WIN

What a great start to the NFL season.  The Chicago Bears shutout their hated rival, The Green Bay Packers, 26-0.   To all my Wisconsin friends....................HA HA...........I told you so.  Its the first time in Brett Favre's career that he has been shut out. We are all wondering, are the Bears that good or are the Packers that bad?

The answer to last Fridays movie quiz is "The Predator".  The 2 actors who became Governors, were Arnold and Jessie.

Since my hiatal hernia symptoms are not improving, my Dr wants to change my medication.   The Dr wants to double the dose of Protonix to 80 mg.  I'm still surviving on the free samples I was given 2 weeks ago.  Walgreens notified me that my insurance company, Healthnet, would not cover it and it would cost $260.  After checking with Healthnet, I found out they will only cover one of the 6 acid blockers on the market, Aciphex.  When I got to Walgreens to P/U the Aciphex pills, they told me Healthnet would only cover 30 pills @ 20 mg.  GRRRRRR.   I did more research and found 50 pills, Protonix, 40 mg, at Costco for $176 of my own money.   I gave this info to the Dr and they will phone it in to Costco, and the pills will be shipped to my house within a week.  THANKS HEALTHNET!!!

And I've come up with a new meal plan.  My symptoms usually start to get bad in late afternoon, which interferes with my dinner.   So I've decided to eat my main meal at lunch time.  Maybe this will stop the weight loss.

Less than 2 weeks until the first MSN Space Convention.  For those of you on the official list, please let me know if you are still attending.  Paula has a list on her site of people who are confirmed, I hope it is accurate.  Send me an email if you have any questions.  I will have more details later this week or next.

She came home early and found her husband in their bedroom making love to an attractive young woman.

 The wife was very upset!

You are a disrespectful pig! She cried; How dare you do this to me. A  faithful wife and the mother of your children! I'm leaving you.

I want a divorce right away!

He replied; Hang on just a minute love, so at least I can tell you what  happened.

Fine, go ahead, she sobbed; But they'll be the last words you'll say to me!

 And he began;

Well, I was getting into the car to drive home and this young lady here  asked me for a lift.

She looked so down and out and defenseless that I took pity on her and let  her into the car I noticed that she was very thin, not well dressed and very  dirty.

She told me that she hadn't eaten for three days!

So, in my compassion, I brought her home and warmed up the Enchiladas I made  for you last night, the ones you wouldn't eat because you're afraid you'll  put on weight.

The poor thing devoured them in moments

Since she needed a good clean-up I suggested a shower and while she was  doing that I noticed her clothes were dirty and full of holes so I threw them  away.

Then, as she needed clothes, I gave her the designer jeans that you have had  for a few years, but don't wear because you say they are too tight.

I also gave her the underwear that was your anniversary present, which you  don't wear because I don't have good taste.

I found the sexy blouse my sister gave you for Christmas that you don't wear  just to annoy her and I also donated those boots you bought at the expensive boutique and don't wear because someone at work has a pair like them.

He took a quick breath and continued.

She was so grateful for my understanding and help and as I walked her to the  door she turned to me with tears in her eyes and said; Please... Do you have  anything else that your wife doesn't use?

Friday

Better late than never.  I wont go into details, but my hiatal hernia symptoms have been terrible this week, so I haven't been doing much at all with this blog, writing or visiting. And yesterday, MSN spaces was probably down for 12 hours.  I dont know what to write today, I'll just wing it on the fly.  I usually write it the night before and save it as a draft.

Are you ready for some football????   I AM.  Good game last night, it kept me entertained.  I am again in the same football pool.  Its a confidence pool, no point spreads, just pick the winner and assign points.   The team you think has the best chance of winning, you give 16 points to.  The team with the least chance of winning, is given one point.  I dont use any brain cells while filling out the pool, I always pick all the home teams.   The home team that is favored by the most points, is always given 16 pts.  The home team that is underdog by the most points, is given one pt.

And for the 2nd straight year, I have a fantasy football team.   I have a feeling I'll be near the bottom of the standings when all is said and done.

Phoenix police, on Wednesday, arrested a man in connection with the rape of 2 sisters last year.  This incident was connected to the "serial Baseline Killer" who has been terrorizing the area for the past year.   He may or may not be the killer, but everyone has their fingers crossed.

And as I type this entry, the national news is reporting on the sighting of Bucky Philips in SW New York.  All the major news stations are now covering this.   He was spotted on a golf course and shots were fired.   The authorities are trying to surround the area, and once this is done, they will slowly move in on this dangerous man.

Who can answer this movie trivia question?   2 future(when it was made) governors appeared in the same movie together, what was the name of the movie?

PC

The third time was the charm, my first two attempts at re-installing Win XP failed miserably.  After consulting a website on this proceedure, I finally did it correctly.  My laptop is working perfectly now.  For those of you that have not upgraded to IE 7.0, which I highly suggest, here is the website.  This is a beta version, so there will still be some bugs.  If you have problems, check out the discussion groups in the support section.  They also have a toll free number for support at 1-866-876-4926.  If you are having trouble viewing other blogs, its probably because you have an old version of IE.

For those people who sent an email requesting a law..........I lost my saved emails when I reloaded XP, sorry.   You'll have to send in another request.

Katie Couric and Rosie O'Donnell started their new jobs yesterday, does anyone care?

Who would have thought this:   According to TV Guide Channel, Ty Pennington, host of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, is the highest paid endorcer in America.

The 8th grade science teacher, Mrs. Parks, asked her class "Which human body part increases to 7 times its normal size when stimulated?"

No one answered until little Mary stood up, angry, and said, "You should not be asking 8th graders a question like that! I'm going to tell my parents, and they will go and tell the principal, who will then fire you!" With a sneer on her face, she then sat back down.

Mrs. Parks ignored her and asked the question again, "Which body part increases to 7 times its normal size when stimulated?"

Little Mary's mouth fell open; then she said to those around her, "Boy, is she gonna get in big trouble!"

The teacher continued to ignore her and said to the class, "Anybody?"

Finally, Kevin stood up, looked around nervously, and said, "The body part that increases 7 times its size when stimulated is the pupil of the eye. Mrs Parks said, "Very good, Kevin," then turned to Mary and continued, "As for you, young lady, I have three things to say:

(1) you have a dirty mind,
(2) you didn't read your homework and
(3) one day you are going to be very, very disappointed
